2014 Frerichs' Scholarship Award Winners Announced

The Urbandale Booster Club Frerichs’ Scholarship is presented in honor of Denny Frerichs, Football coach at Urbandale High School from 1967 to 1994.  The Urbandale Booster Club annually awards one senior male and one senior female with a one time, $500.00 scholarship.  Students are evaluated by a panel of individuals on their academic profile, involvement in high school athletics, involvement in community activities, and the recommendations of others. 

The 2014 recipients are:
 

Ashley Norem

The daughter of Julie McNees, Ashley Norem is the 2014 Female Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship Award.  Ashley is a letterwinner in Cross Country and Track.  Named the Fareway Student-Athlete of the Week in September 2013, Norem served as a Team Captain for Cross Country this past season and holds the school record in the 400 meter dash, and is on record-holding relay teams for the Sprint Medley Relay, the Distance Medley Relay, and the 4x400 Meter Relay; she earned Elite All State for her participation on the Sprint Medley Team.  Ashley is the President of the Leo Club, a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, and involved in the Emerging Leaders program.  Ashley plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to major in Exercise Science while running Cross Country and Track beginning this fall. 

 

Brian Carrier

Brian Carrier is the 2014 Male Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship Award.  Brian is a letterwinner in Tennis.  Brian is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Council on Youth Leadership, UHS Ambassadors, and the Honor Roll.  He has been active in Band, Debate Club, Knowledge Bowl, and Science Bowl.  Brian is an All-State Band member and an AP Scholar.  Brian is the son of Chris and Kaye Carrier.  Brian plans to attend a four-year university to study Engineering after high school.
