Hammen, Winger Recognized by IHSAA

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced that Joe Hammen and Ed Winger have been awarded the 2017 Morris D. Kelley Award.  The honor is given annually by the IHSAA Board of Control to recognize excellence in public address announcing.

 

Hammen currently serves as the announcer for Urbandale Athletics in Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Track, and Softball and frequently handles the duties for other events.  He also serves in the same capacity for the Iowa Cubs.

 

Winger was the long time announcer at the State Wrestling Tournament, retiring his microphone following the 2008 State Wrestling Tournament.  The prestigious Ed Winger Invitational, held each January at Urbandale High School in his honor.  Winger frequented the microphone for other sporting activities through the years.

 

Urbandale High School plans to honor these two in a ceremony this fall.
