The Urbandale Athletic Department announced late Monday that Kenton Tennal has been named the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Urbandale High School. Tennal replaces Gary Birdwell who resigned in April after six-year stint.
Tennal takes over his third girls program, boasting an 80-20 career record in Girls Basketball. He led programs in Holcomb, Kansas, and Ord, Nebraska, before moving to the Des Moines area in 2016. At Ord, his 2015-2016 squad went 24-3 in his second and final season and qualified for the Nebraska Girls State Basketball Tournament.
Tennal currently serves as a teacher in Indianola and has experience in Urbandale, working as an Assistant Coach in the Girls Program in 2016-2017 and running Coach T's Skills and Drills in the Urbandale Community Education Department.
