The Urbandale Booster Club Frerichs’ Scholarship is presented in honor of Denny Frerichs, Football coach at Urbandale High School from 1967 to 1994. The Urbandale Booster Club annually awards one senior male and one senior female with a one time, $500.00 scholarship. Students are evaluated by a panel of individuals on their academic profile, involvement in high school athletics, involvement in community activities, and the recommendations of others.

Nicole Gilson
The daughter of Kirby and Vicki Gilson, Nicole Gilson is the 2013 Female Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship Award. Nicole is a letterwinner in Track and a Drake Relays and State Meet Qualifier; in 2012 she placed 7th at the State Meet in the Discus. In addition, she has been active in Student Senate, Leo Club, Character Counts, is co-President of FCA, is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and serves as a Student Ambassador and DARE Role Model. Nicole has received recognition throughout high school on the 4.0 GPA Honor Roll. Nicole plans to enroll at Iowa State University next fall.
Myles Davis is the 2013 Male Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship Award. Myles is a letterwinner in Track and Bowling. Myles has been active in Show Choir, Ultimate Frisbee, ECO Club, Choir, Knowledge Bowl, Knowledge Open, Tutoring, Purple Meet Math Competition and is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Myles is a member of the Honor Roll and earned Academic All-Conference in Track, Bowling, Basketball, and Baseball; he is a recipient of the Academic Recognition Award, the Herff Jones Believe in You President’s Award, and the President’s Award for Competitive Excellence. Myles is the son of Chuck Davis and Robin Davis. Myles plans to attend Iowa State University next fall where he will major in either Materials or Mechanical Engineering and enroll in the Air Force ROTC Program.
