The Urbandale Booster Club Frerichs’ Scholarship is presented in honor of Denny Frerichs, Football coach at Urbandale High School from 1967 to 1994. The Urbandale Booster Club annually awards one senior male and one senior female with a one time, $500.00 scholarship. Students are evaluated by a panel of individuals on their academic profile, involvement in high school athletics, involvement in community activities, and the recommendations of others.
This year's recipients are Emily DeDoncker and Adam Fraher.
Emily DeDoncker
The daughter of Kris DuBay and Roger DeDoncker, Emily DeDoncker is the 2018 Female Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship Award. Emily was a four-time letterwinner in Volleyball, earning 2nd Team All-State, 1st Team All-Iowa Conference, Elite All-Conference by the Des Moines Register and Academic All-State following her senior season. In addition, she is a letterwinner in Tennis and participated in the State Tennis Meet in 2017. She earned a letter in Softball and is active in Student Senate, where she currently serves as Vice President, Emerging Leaders, Student Ambassadors, and the Silver Cord Program. Emily is a member of the National Council on Youth Leadership, the National Honor Society, the Honor Roll, and DECA, where she is a two-time National Qualifier and an Award of Excellence recipient for her work in a Financial Consulting Event in 2017. Emily plans to attend Iowa State University in the fall to double major in Apparel Merchandising and Public Relations.
Adam Fraher
Adam Fraher is the 2018 Male Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship Award. Adam will earn his fourth letter in Wrestling this year and was a three-time letterwinner in Football, a Team Captain, a 1st Team All-District Selection and Academic All-State Selection this past year. He has been active in J-Hawk Foundations and is an Emerging Leader. Adam has been on the Honor Roll throughout high school. Adam, the son of Steve and Chris Fraher, plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to major in Marketing / Business in the fall.
