The Urbandale Booster Club Frerichs’ Scholarship is presented in honor of Denny Frerichs, Football coach at Urbandale High School from 1967 to 1994. The Urbandale Booster Club annually awards a one time, $500.00 scholarship. Students are evaluated by a panel of individuals on their academic profile, involvement in high school athletics, involvement in community activities, and the recommendations of others.

The daughter of Tim and Darci Carver, Katie Carver is the 2021 Female Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship.  Katie is a four year letterwinner in Volleyball, earning 2nd Team All-Conference in 2019, and a two-time letterwinner in Tennis, where she qualified for the State Meet twice and placed 7th in Singles in 2019.  Katie is involved in Show Choir, FCA, Urbandale Singers, Team UHS, the Silver Cord Program, the National Honor Society, the National Council on Youth Leadership, Student Senate, Hope in Action, and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  Katie is a member of the Honor Roll and earned Academic All-Conference in Tennis and Volleyball and was named to the 2020 IGCA Academic All-State Volleyball Team.  Katie plans to     attend Iowa State University in the fall.

August Herbold is the 2021 Male Recipient of the Urbandale Booster Club, Frerichs’ Scholarship Award.  August was a three-year letterwinner in Football, a Team Captain, and earned 2nd Team All-District and Academic All State this past season.  In addition, he  participated in Bass Choir, Track, Basketball, and Baseball, earning Academic All-Conference in the latter two.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll, earned an Academic Letter, and is on the DMACC President’s List.  August is the son of Debra and Lance Herbold.  August plans to attend a four-year university in the fall to major in Pre-Medicine or Pre-Law.
