Urbandale Jaywalkers to Compete at State Championships

Dancers from across the state will take the floor at Wells Fargo Arena November 29 through December 1 for the country’s largest high school dance team competition.

The 48th annual Iowa High School and College State Dance Team Championships will feature 25 college teams and 251 high school teams. Organized by the Iowa State Dance Team Association (ISDTA) and boasting more than 650 routines, the annual event will also see 140 finalists competing in the first-ever ISDTA Solo Finals competition. The competition takes place in Wells Fargo Arena, Hy-Vee Hall and the Community Choice Convention Center.

Team competition categories include pom, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, color guard, military, kick, hoopla, light, novelty, prop, all male, co-ed, and show production. Color Guard teams and soloists perform on Wednesday with high school and college dancers kicking off competition on Thursday and Friday.

Entry fees for spectators is $15/person. Tickets to attend in person and live stream access will be available to pre-purchase starting November 20; information will be posted at www.isdtalive.com. Dance team participants and fans can also purchase state apparel, the commemorative program, and digital files of this year’s competition on the website.

Urbandale High School will perform:

  • Jazz at 11:55am in Hy-Vee Hall
  • Hip Hop at 2:29pm in Hy-Vee Hall
  • Pom at 3:58pm in Hy-Vee Hall
  • Awards are at 7:45pm in Wells Fargo Arena

Urbandale will have one soloist, who made the Top 10 for Class X. Abby Mulligan will compete her solo at 10:04am at the Community Choice Convention Center. Solo awards will be from 1-1:45pm in Wells Fargo Arena
